Senior Practice Manager

Salary: up to £40,000pa (commensurate with experience)

We invite applications for the role of Senior Practice Manager (maternity cover) on a 12-month, fixed term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity which would be well suited to an established barristers’ clerk who is looking for an opportunity to develop their skills and experience in a more senior role.

As a senior member of our Practice Management Team, the successful applicant will report directly to, and deputise for, the Head of Practice Management and will have some line management responsibility. Prior employment at a mid to senior level within the clerking team of a barristers’ chambers is therefore essential.

Duties will involve dealing with the allocation of work across all practice areas and all levels of barrister seniority; dealing with day-to-day diary bookings; liaising with members of Chambers, courts and solicitors in respect of practice work; negotiating and billing fees; the supervision / line management of our practice managers and practice assistant.

A comprehensive induction and training programme will also be provided across Chambers’ practice areas.

Person specification


  • Experience of civil and criminal clerking
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal aid, private and conditional fee funding
  • Experience of supporting the development of barrister practices
  • Capable of effectively managing own workload and working under pressure
  • Ability to work as part of and support the leadership of a team
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills
  • Experience of LEX case management system or similar professional software


  • Previous line management experience
  • Knowledge of Chambers’ practice areas
  • Knowledge and experience of clerking Public Access work
