Joseph Markus shortlisted for LALY 2016

20 May 2016

Garden Court North Chambers’ Joseph Marcus has been shortlisted in the Legal Aid Newcomer category. Joe was commended by those who wrote in support of his nomination for his skill as an advocate, his breadth of knowledge and his dedication to publicly funded work and representing vulnerable individuals; from applying his “sharp intellect” on important cases such as Gudanaviciene (lead challenge to legal aid exceptional funding regime), Kiarie (“deport first appeal later”) to reassuring terrified clients in the First Tier Tribunal and on site visits to homeless camps.

In the words of the Legal Action’s feature on LALY Finalists (June 2016 edition):

“Joseph acts in housing cases and has been known to attend homelessness camps to take instructions direct from clients. He was integral to the success of the Gudanaviciene case over exceptional case funding and is described as ‘an unpretentious genius'”.

The awards ceremony will take place on 7 July 2016 in London. The list of all the shortlisted LALY 2016 legal aid lawyers is on the LAPG press release.
