In conjunction with the Association of Prison Lawyers (APL), Garden Court North Chambers are pleased to announce a full day update seminar covering the latest developments in prison law.

Programme

Session 1 (1hr)
Vijay Jagadesham and Matthew Stanbury
- A round-up of all the important cases and statutory, regulatory and policy changes over the past 12 months.

Session two (45 mins)
Emma Stevenson and Mary McKeone
SOTP is changing next year. An update on these changes, including an overview of the "Good Lives Model" approach to treating sexual offending.

Session three (45 mins)
Mike Pemberton and Vijay Jagadesham
Is the Parole Board still bullet-proof? A round-up of case law and practitioner experience of poor decisions by panel members and poor decisions on granting parole hearings.

Session four (1 hr)
Carl Buckley, Mike Pemberton and other APL speakers
Funding panel discussion – the latest position and tips on best practice, including funding for sentence treatment and advocacy assistance; associated CLS work; general problems in relation to profitability.

Session five (45 mins)
Panel chaired by Pete Weatherby with speakers from throughout the day
Question time - trends in prison law; you pick the topics.

Session six (1 hr)
Chris Callender, Kate Stone and Jared Ficklin
Release and resettlement including housing and community care issues for vulnerable adults. Also an overview of the particular resettlement issues faced by foreign nationals. This session will cover the relevant statutory framework and caselaw.

Closing remarks (15 mins)

Cost

£85 + VAT per delegate or a discounted rate of £60 + VAT for APL members.
