The Times has last week reported the case of R v Caines and R v Roberts [2006] EWCA Crim 2915 (The Times, 7 December 2006).

The judgment ruled that when carrying out a review of the minimum period ot be served by an offender sentenced to a mandatory term of life imprisonment, the judge was entitled to take into account the offender's exceptional progres in prison or the purpose of revising the minimum term.
