Mark George to teach on US Death Penalty Training Course

Mark George from Garden Court North will be speaking at the US death penalty training session organised jointly by Reprieve and Amicus on Saturday 30th March 2007 in London.

The full course begins on Friday evening 30th March and runs until Sunday 1st April. This part of the course will cover the theory involved in death penalty law. A further weekend on Saturday 21st April and Sunday 22nd April will cover practical issues in death penalty litigation.

The aim of the course is to introduce the subject to student lawyers and others interested in issues around the death penalty in the USA and in particular to provide practical training and advice to those who intend to do an internship in one of the death penalty States.

The programme for Saturday 20th March includes sessions on the US Federal Constitution and the practice of the US Supreme Court.Mark has spoken on similar training course over the past seven years and will be speaking about a number of aspects of death penalty trial procedure from arrest, through pre-trial motions, issues such as ineffective assistance of counsel to jury selection and how the jury reaches a verdict of death. A further speaker will discuss mitigation and appeals.
