Mark George to teach on death penalty legal training course

17/11/2005

Mark George will be teaching at an introductory training session which Amicus have organised in conjunction with the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice and Oxford Brookes University. Amicus aims to help provide legal representation for those awaiting capital trial and punishment in the US and to raise awareness of potential abuses of their rights.

The training session will be held on Saturday 26th November 2005 at the Oxford ILP and is intended to be an introduction to practice and procedure in death penalty cases in the US and will cover such topics as trial procedure, jury selection, mitigation and sentencing and a brief look at the appeal system in such cases. There will also be an introduction to methods of researching US law and procedure.

This course is only open to students at the ILP and OxfordBrookesUniversity. However following the showing of the film " Deadline" at BPP in October Amicus intends to run training sessions in Manchester which will probably take place early in the New Year. A further announcement will be made in due course.
