GCN's first "home grown" QC now official

30/03/2009

Mark George QC , the first member to be appointed Queen’s Counsel since Garden Court North’s inception in 1996, attended the appointment of Queen’s Counsel ceremonies on Monday (30th March 2009) in Westminster Hall and the Royal Courts of Justice. Mark was appointed QC following the 2008-09 competition .

Mark's practice spans more than 3 decades; a highly experienced defence trial advocate covering all aspects of serious crime including murder and gang related offences; many of his cases have involved protesters from political groups as well as miners, print workers, environmentalists and animal rights activists as well as teachers and carers accused of serious sexual assaults. Mark has a well established reputation amongst legal professionals, reflected by his recommendations in recent editions of the leading legal directories: "Solicitors praise Mark George for 'his mastery of a brief, knowledge of the law and rapport with the clients'." (Chambers and Partners 2009); "...[Mark] enjoys a particularly privileged place in the region for 'the wealth of his experience and the regard he is held in'." (Chambers and Partners 2007 ) and "acclaimed by peers for always being 'at the top of his game'..." (Chambers and Partners 2006).

This new QC appointment takes Chambers’ total to two, as Mark George QC now joins head of chambers Ian Macdonald QC , who is once again living in Manchester and being clerked through Garden Court North.
