Andrew Jones inquest

12/02/2008

Mark George is instructed in the inquest into the death of Merseyside teenager Andrew Jones who was fatally injured after a night out.

No date has yet been fixed for the hearing of the inquest. This is due to a lack of resources at the offices of HM Coroner which means that there is very little staff time available to complete the task of sifting through a large amount of material delivered to the Coroner following the High Court hearing in July 2007. It is only once this task has been completed that HMC will be in a position to determine what evidence should be called at the inquest and then be in a position to fix a date for the hearing. The case is next due to be mentioned on 20th May 2008.

Mark George is instructed by Harriet Wistrich of Birnberg Pierce, London and is representing the family for no fee after the Legal Services Commission refused an application for exceptional funding.

> We want justice not revenge - Andrew Jones was a young lad killed by a punch after a night on the town. But his parents say it was marked down as a 'scum on scum' killing - and this complacency is why, 18 months on, his killer is still free. Julie Bindel reports - The Guardian (22/10/2004)
