Government appeals ruling on inderterminate sentences

The Government has today launched an appeal against two High Court rulings on indeterminate sentences (IPPs).

R on the application of Walker v Secretary of State for Justice and

The Queen on the application of James v Secretary of State for Justice.

The Secretary of State's Appeals will be heard in the Court of Appeal (Civil Division) on 20th and 21st November 2007.

James is the the appeal of the defendant from the order of Mr Justice Collins, dated 20th August 2007, in which Pete Weatherby also acted for James. James has been joined to the earlier IPP test case of Walker.
