GCN sponsors LAG National Conference on Legal Aid  

With this conference, LAG is seeking to spark a debate about the future of legal aid and ensure that firms and not-for-profit agencies can meet the changes planned for the system.

Expert speakers include:

• Dominic Grieve (Shadow Secretary of State for Justice)
• Kate Green (chief executive of Child Poverty Action Group)
• Carolyn Regan (chief executive of the Legal Services Commission)

• Afua Hirsch (the Guardian)
• Steve Hynes (director of LAG)

As well as the plenary sessions on legal aid policy and the future of the system, delegates will be invited to participate in workshops on practice management and service planning. These workshops cover:

• Managing civil legal aid practices - David Gilmore (DG Legal)
• Criminal legal aid - Andrew Keogh (Keogh Solicitors)
• Developing civil legal aid in partnerships

The conference concludes with a panel discussion led by leading commentators on legal aid's role in the welfare state and the impact of the recession on the demand for legal services.

The conference will be of value particularly to solicitors, barristers, legal executives and not-for-profit agencies such as Citizens Advice Bureaux and Law Centres® as well as officers from central and local government concerned with advice services.
