"Deadline: the Movie" screening in Manchester

On Wednesday 19th October 2005 at 6 - 8pm the film "Deadline: the Movie" will be screened at BPP Law School, 79 Oxford Street, Manchester, in association with Amicus.

Can the legal system keep an innocent man from being sentenced to death?

Having exhausted his appeals, Anthony Porter was hours away from execution when he won a reprive from the Illinois Supreme Court.

When several more inmates of Illinois Death Row are also found to be innocent, Illinois Governor George Ryan myst make one of hte most difficult decisions of his life - to ignore this disturbing evidence, or to transform the entire Illinois capital punishment system. The stakes of this decision are the lives of over 170 people, and Ryan's own political career. And he has only a few months to issue his final decision. Deadline: the Movie captures the ensuing dramatic series of events as they unfold.
