Practice

Immigration

Experience in asylum and non-asylum appeals. Practice includes advising and drafting grounds of appeal to the AIT.

Civil actions against the police and Home Office

For wrongful arrest, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, assault and personal injury.

Prison Law

High Court applications (judicial review and habeas corpus) with regards to conditions, rules and release dates, also representation at Discretionary Lifer Panel hearings.

Inquests

Representation of families of persons who have died in police or prison custody. Also judicial review of inquest decisions and rulings. Acted for Gulf War Veterans family where deceased suffered post traumatic stress disorder.

Criminal Law

Full range of defence work, including representation in the Crown Court on offences including public order act, robbery, section 18 & 20, burglary, drugs and manslaughter. Also undertakes work in the Magistrates Court and Youth Court. Particular interest in public order cases and those with a mental health element.

Other Activities

Lecturer in Law at the University of Lancaster in the areas of Criminal Law, Comparative Law, EU Law and Human Rights. Guest Lecturer at the Sorbonne, Paris in March 2002 and March 2004 on UK Human Rights Law.
