Areas of Specialisation / Areas / Welfare benefits

Welfare benefits

Chambers offers expert advice and representation of benefit claimants in all areas, including housing, council tax, maternity, industrial injuries, disablement, disability and incapacity related benefits, in addition to tax credits and income support/JSA.

> members of the welfare benefits team

Members of the team have a particular interest in cases involving issues of human rights and European Union law, especially those concerning discrimination on the grounds of nationality or gender.

Members of the team appear before Appeal Tribunals, the Social Security Commissioners, the Court of Appeal and the European Court of Human Rights concerning social security matters.

In view of the lack of legal aid for Appeal Tribunal and the Social Security Commissioners hearings, the team can offer advice on the prospects of obtaining exceptional funding from the LSC.

The team also advise and represent Claimants in public law proceedings before the Administrative Court.

Chambers is also aware that Welfare Benefits / Social Security cases often overlap with other areas of specialisation and can offer expertise in housing , community care , employment and immigration where appropriate.
