Pete Weatherby on "whole-life tariff" challenges

Pete Weatherby was interviewed for Real Radio today to provide legal context to the ongoing appeal against his whole-life tariff by Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe.
Real Radio asked Pete Weatherby to explain the arguments which Peter Sutcliffe will use in his legal challenge today against a high court ruling that he should never be released. Pete Weatherby noted that the compliance of whole-life sentences with Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights is very questionable.
Pete Weatherby recently appeared in the case of Stephen Ayre (April 2010) where the Court of Appeal quashed the only "whole-life tariff" being served by a discretionary life sentence prisoner. Pete currently has another case before the ECHR arguing that "whole-life" cases are incompatible with Article 3 of the convention ( Vinter v UK).
