Kerry Smith to speak at IER Employment Law Update conference on 23/11/10
16/11/2010
Kerry Smith of GCN will speak at an IER (Institute of Employment Rights) conference on "The law on sexual orientation discrimination" which takes place in Liverpool later this month.
Background to the conference
This is the third Employment Law Update Conference in the North West, and has been organised in association with the TUC and Thompsons Solicitors.
In recent years legislation dealing with trade union and employment issues has been introduced twice a year â in April and October, offering ideal opportunities to monitor and comment on the UKâs framework of law. At the time of writing, a new coalition government has recently been elected and it is impossible to predict whether the previous arrangements of twice annual common commencement dates will remain in force. This is an exciting time of change with much to consider and discuss.
The Employment Law Update conference is designed to keep trade union representatives, academics, lawyers and others up to date and well informed about developments in employment law. This year it will be particularly well placed to comment on the latest Queenâs Speech that will outline the coalition governmentâs parliamentary plans. The conference will also provide an excellent opportunity for speakers and delegates to give an early analysis of, and response to, the new governmentâs legislative programme.
